With an interest in the relationship between anthropology and business, social media, and digital worlds, Laurie is Treefrog’s lead social strategist and community manager. Laurie completed her PhD in Social Anthropology at York University. Her research has spanned three continents and explored the relationship between religion and performance technology through extensive fieldwork at conference and trade events. During this long-term project and after the birth of her first daughter, she took the role of Social Media Strategist and Content Manager for the Borderless Higher Education for Refugees (BHER) project, a joint initiative between York University, DFAIT-D and local Kenyan institutions of higher education. BHER brings university-level courses and certification programs to refugees in one of the largest camps in the world, in Dadaab, Kenya. During her tenure with BHER she built their social media presence and completely redesigned their content and website.
When not thinking strategy, anthropology, and social media marketing, Laurie is likely to be found playing with her two daughters, hanging out with her husband, making soap or sewing costumes and clothes.
